New luxury changing rooms now open

Posted on April 8th, 2014

The new adult-only changing rooms are now open following a quarter of a million pound transformation.

The new design and spacious layout has received highly positive feedback from our members:

“Fantastic new changing rooms. Amazing what has been done. Well done and a huge thanks to the team.”

“A great improvement. Well done everyone involved.”

“Lovely changing rooms. Can’t believe how much space there is now.”

The upgrade includes new showers and wet area,  spacious changing cubicles, vanity area and comfortable seating and changing space.

Senior Manager, Mark Leech said: “Following the gym refurbishment last year, we felt the changing rooms needed the same level of design and finish. Working with IMD & associates based in Blackburn we have done just that and we are really proud of the end result. The feedback from our members has been overwhelming.”

The investment in the Health Club continues this year with another exciting development planned.

Mark added: “Continue growth within the business allows us to continue to make investments such as this and as that success continues we will not be stopping here. We are starting work as we speak on the next development which will see the current Sweatshop transformed into ACTIVATE sports store which will be managed directly by Ribby Hall Village. The objective is to bring a broader range of sports equipment and clothing mixed with some lifestyle clothing ranges that we feel will be more relevant to our members, holiday guests and local customers.”

Oh So Fishy

Posted on April 8th, 2014

Here at Ribby Hall we do our best to ensure all your activities our top notch and this includes fishing. We have a selection of different fish ranging in size from Common Carp, Mirror Carp  to Crusian Carp, Perch and Rudd. On Friday 4th April The Village went oh so fishy with, the netting of two fishing ponds by Jon Wall Fisheries Ltd.

Ian and Jon

Ian and Jon from Jon Wall Fisheries start the boat

Jon wall fisheries ltd  provide fisheries with high quality services in all aspects of fishery management, from fish stocking to weed cutting. With a combined experience of over 30 years we left our fish in safe hands.

Chay from Jon Wall fisheries holds on to the weighted net

Netting involves the catching and sorting of hundreds of fish in order to estimate how many fish our in the pond. As part of our pond management program the ponds should be netted every 2 or 3 years. This is because without human intervention the ponds can easily get over stocked.

Ian and Chay begin to pull in the net

Over stocked ponds can put a strain on an ecosystems resources e.g.oxygen and food. Less resources in turn impacts the health of its fish, and can ultimately cause fish to die. Fish death is natures way of dealing with overstocking but we want to prevent any unnecessary suffering in our fish. In order to prevent overstocking from happening netting allows us to estimate the number of fish in the ponds and remove any excess. Removing some of the fish then allows the remaining more breathing room (literally) and more food to eat.

Fish are moved from the pond into large buckets for sorting

During netting we removed almost 700 pounds of Rudd from both Condor Green and Fishermans Reach and found over 400 pounds of Carp. The carp ranged in size but the largest netted was around 12 pounds. Netting is inexact and it is very likely some carp got away, especially as Carp are very good at hiding and escaping nets.

“Who says fish cant be cute?”

Ponds are diverse and interesting ecosystems and full of life. Ensuring that the ponds are fantastic homes for our fish is no easy task and requires a deep look into the secret life of fish. In the next few years we plan to make furthur improvements to our ponds. By planting more vegetation, improving the aeation systems and even improving the jetties.

By having the ponds netted we have opened up space for our fish and we hope to see some bigger, heavier fish this year. Watch out over the next few months as the fish will be going into spawning season. Here’s to a good year of fishing!
