Employees Celebrate 20 Years of Ribby Hall Village

Posted on March 5th, 2014

This year Ribby Hall Village is celebrating its twentieth birthday.  For two decades this independently owned and family run company has continued to go from strength to strength, and offers a plethora of career opportunities across its diverse number of businesses which are open 365 days a year. In 2013 alone, the company enjoyed a turnover in excess of twenty million pounds.

Last Thursday night employees at Ribby Hall Village were invited to attend their fifth Annual Staff Conference in The Woodland Suite. Celebratory drinks were served on arrival by glamorous show girls followed by a welcome speech from Chief Executive Mr Paul Harrison. Mr Harrison spoke about how incredibly fast the last 20 years have gone and how he vividly remembers 1994, surveying with his father in their Land Rover the plot of land (on which Ribby Hall Village now operates) which was then home to a few caravans and a couple of cow sheds. They had plans to turn these 100 acres into something very special and in year one employed up to 20 staff.  Mr Harrison also spoke of his pride and that albeit the original development had taken longer than originally anticipated, the achievements are twice what he’d originally set out to do and that today, Ribby Hall Village employs more than 400 people.

Mr Harrison also took time to reflect on the company’s achievements over the last twelve months including Gold Investors in People status and many national awards such as being crowned the Best Health Club in the UK at the 2013 National Fitness Awards; The Health Club also winning the National Flame Award; being voted by The Good Spa Guide Readers as ‘Best Spa in the North – beating fierce competition from 17 others as well as The SPA Hotel being a finalist in the National Beauty Awards last week in London … to name a few.

Various Ribby Hall Village departments who had exceeded expectations including financial targets were also congratulated as well as employees being informed of key objectives and enhancements for the company in 2014. Across the company’s portfolio, individual promotions were also announced.

An awards ceremony hosted by Director of Business Development Susan Houseman recognised and rewarded a number of employees for their outstanding contribution to the business over the last 12 months.

Awards included:

  • Best Supporting Act – won by Ribby Hall Village’s Security Team
  • Receptionist of the Year – awarded to Sophie Jefferson, Guest Services Assistant
  • Sales Person of the Year – winners being Kristina Rowlands, Weddings Co-ordinator/ Office Team Leader and Hannah Lee, Weddings Co-ordinator
  • Chef of the Year – awarded to Head Chef Simon Ball, The Restaurant
  • Excellence in Customer Service – Won by Team Member Fabio Rambelli, The Restaurant
  • Unsung Hero – awarded to Milo Thompson, Commis Chef, Banqueting
  • Top Team – winners being The SPA Hotel at Ribby Hall Village
  • Rising Star – awarded to Sam Hodskinson, Manager of Papa John’s at Ribby Hall Village
  • Management Excellence Star – won by James Mitchell, Health Club Duty Manager
  • Focus Excellence Star – awarded to Bevan Morgan-Middleton, Manager, The Restaurant
  • Employee of the Year – won by Carl Dean, Refurbishment Manager
  • Chairman’s Award – presented to John McIlwham, Senior Manager – Estate Maintenance & Safety

Mr Harrison’s immediate family were also present including wife Janet Harrison, and children William and Stephanie.  They presented their father with a surprise award to commemorate his twenty years of business.  Stephanie also delivered a speech about her father sharing her thoughts on him as a role model, mentor, and most importantly as a father – speaking about his integrity, fairness and wonderful ability to surround himself with like-minded people who genuinely care and are passionate about all they do.

The evening’s celebrations culminated in dancing into the early hours of Friday morning with the band ‘A few Good Men.’

Mr Paul Harrison concluded “We have a very special and unique business that has a real heart and soul.  It would be the type of company I would like to work for too if I wanted to further my career.  At Ribby Hall Village we’re serious about creating careers and opportunities for dedicated and talented staff.  I believe we provide a great working environment and there’s a fantastic spirit amongst the various teams.  It’s plain to see the respect colleagues have for each other within the workplace.  I’m extremely grateful for everyone’s hard work and commitment, it’s much appreciated.  In particular, well done to all those who have been nominated or indeed have won an award tonight.” He added “Tonight’s a celebration for our twentieth birthday; two very unforgettable decades and here’s hoping there are countless more to come”
